Halwa Puri

Halwa Puri-- a delicious blend of savory and sweet dishes that combine to form a traditional Pakistani brunch! Halwa puri is made of 4 dishes: spicy chana (chickpeas) masala, easy spiced aloo (potatoes), fluffy poori (fried flatbread), and sweet soogi (semolina)  halva!

Halwa Puri is a traditional Pakistani brunch/breakfast that is usually eaten at special occasions! It's a very decadent and indulgent dish-- guaranteed to make your morning much better! A few things to keep in mind:

  • halwa puri is eaten once in a while, so the recipe is pretty heavy in oil, but it still has less oil than restaurant-made halva puri

  • you can decrease the oil if you want, but your final results may be different

  • we used whole wheat flour (atta) for our puris, but you can also use all-purpose flour (maida)

  • we used can tomato sauce in the chana masala and spiced aloo, but you can substitute with fresh tomato puree (you'll have to increase the cooking time)

  • we used achari masala on our potatoes (recipe included) but you can substitute with salt, pepper, and chili powder (the flavor will be different)

We've made this classic recipe easy and simple so that you can enjoy halva puri without spending hours in the kitchen! So cook up these 4 easy dishes, serve with achar or yogurt, and ENJOY!
